Details
Ilimari Tapiovaara was committed to designing furniture for a much broader market. His goal was to produce quality inexpensive furniture that was made from materials that were readily available in Finland. The rustic simplicity and smaller structure made the Pirkka Collection very popular for use in the smaller homes in the post war era of the 1950s. The Pirkka Collection is made of solid wood with simple, clean lines which make for stylish functionality. The wood is joined together using no screws making it remarkably lightweight. The rustic table carries with it the aesthetic appeal of modern design even 50 years later. The table is available in a variety of lengths making it ideal for several different locations. The bench can be paired with the table or used as a stand lone piece. The wider than usual width makes it a comfortable seat. The side chair also pairs well with the table but can stand on its own and the stool completes the set and is available in 4 heights to make it even more versatile. The seats and table top are stained pine with a black lacquered solid birch frame.

Artek
One of four founders of the Artek brand, Alvar Aalto’s pieces embrace the brand’s dedication to blending art and technology for the sake of promoting “a modern culture of living.” His furniture, like his buildings, strike a balance, exist in harmony with their surroundings, and possess only ver carefully considered details.
A leader of the modernist movement, Alvar teamed up with his wife Aino to inject a uniquely architectural perspective into lighting, textiles, and furniture, creating his first piece in 1932. Alvar’s legacy lies in the pieces he designed that continue to be reproduced for the benefit and admiration of current and future generations.
