Simon Legald & the Herit Chair

A graduate of The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Simon Legald has been working in the industry since 2012. His work includes a number of chairs, all of which have an element of honesty to them—a feature important to Legald who claims that honesty defines a design. Ultimate, Legald designs furniture meant to be used, but that doesn’t stop him from using the ratio, form, ergonomics, and materials of his designs to address “psychological and aesthetic needs.”

Legald shies away from details, intricate or otherwise. This is seen in his most popular pieces; the clean lines and uncomplicated materials of the Form Chair, as well as the fluid joinery of the Herit Chair are testaments to this. In stripping the extras, however, Legald does not remove the character. Instead, it is achieved through a deep understanding of Danish traditions that dictate simplicity from a stance of creating harmony in all things.

Normann Copenhagen Herit Chair

Simon Legald’s Herit Armchair stands at the crossroads of tradition and the future. Named for the heritage that inspired it, this crisp chair design spares no thought for the extraneous while keeping the needs and comfort of the user at heart. What’s more, the graceful chair is assembled using innovative production methods and offers a versatility and timelessness that makes it a spark of hope for the future of sustainable and desirable design.

The Herit collection includes a dining or side chair as well as an armchair. All of these pieces embody Danish design practices while adapting to the modern needs of commercial and domestic spaces. The frame and legs of each chair is crafted from solid oak, deftly carved and assembled to create a series of slanting, slightly curving, and straight lines. The seat is available upholstered or unupholstered, while the high backrest is always an ergonomically formed plastic.

The composition is hard to miss. Between its pleasant angles, soft expressions, and figurative silhouette, the Herit Chair leaves a lasting impression. Embracing the Herit Chair in any space is effortless. Its modesty makes it easy to pair with other Normann Copenhagen pieces like the Rib Sideboard, the Slice Table, and the Bell Pendant.
