The 8 Leather Accent Chairs We’d Use in Any Modern Home

While the lounge chair is a familiar concept, we like to think the accent chair has a more unique and defined place in the modern living room. Lounge chairs are for lounging, accent chairs are for wowing. Despite any unusual features or innovative silhouettes, the accent chair must also act as a harmonious part of the room’s design. The point of an accent chair is not to steal the show but rather add something visually stunning that starts conversations while still being highly functional to the use of the room. We like to think the pieces in our living room furniture collection fit that bill. Furthermore, we know that adding leather as the upholstery of choice not only solidifies the chair as an accent piece, but ensures comfort, durability, and a sophisticated presence. Some of our favorite chairs are leather, so here are eight leather accent chairs we'd use in any modern home.

Where to Use Accent Chairs

The most obvious answer is in the living room. And this is correct and typical. We highly recommend styling an accent chair alongside your sofa and other lounge furniture, pairing them with a complementary side table and maybe even a floor lamp.

But there are a few other places where an accent chair can appear in your modern home and add to the atmosphere and style.

  • Styling accent chairs on large landings. This is probably the most unique area for an accent chair. Larger staircase landings sometimes have lots of room to create a mini seating area. Sometimes people turn these into mini home libraries where an accent chair would fit in perfectly. Pair it with a small side table, a table light or pendant, and some art and shelves.
  • Using an accent chair in the bathroom. Besides a landing, the bathroom is next most unique place for an accent chair. If your bathroom is quite large, there may be a corner that can be transformed into a spa area which lends itself well to an accent chair.
  • Why you need an accent chair in the bedroom. Chairs are not thought of as an essential in bedrooms. However, this space is your haven, where you are mean to relax and unwind. An accent chair, designed for lounging is a great addition. Especially if you have the space to carve out a reading nook.
  • Styling accent chairs in entryways. A small seating area in an entryway is not unusual. This is another place to create a little moment with an eye-catching chair, a table, and a lamp. Keep it simple and welcoming. If it interrupts the flow into your home, this is not the option for you. But if it fills a cavernous entry hall, it’s a great way to add some comfort and set the tone.
  • Using an accent chair in your office. Some of your best thinking and problem solving might just happen in a unique and fun lounge chair. This accent chair is a great way to infuse your personal style into a corporate space and add a complementing piece to your desk and desk chair. Round out the room with a small seating area built around an accent chair.

Why Leather Upholstery?

While leather is not for everyone, it does have its benefits. The first is that it’s a natural material. This means it can be gentler on the skin and even benefit the environment since it is usually ethically sourced and biodegradable. Second, is its durability. While leather ages and patinas and definitely shows scratches and stains, it is a very durable material that grows with you and showcases the life it’s been a part of. This long-lasting material fights against throw-away culture.

Finally, leather has always been associated with more sophisticated and modern designs. Conversely, it also works well in more rustic and natural environments. Leather is versatile and pairs well with both modern and traditional furniture silhouettes and styles, but really adding to the sleek expressions and elegance of more contemporary accent chairs.
