Spotlight on Asplund: The Art of Furniture

In 1990 the Asplund brothers set out to create an art gallery where furniture, in all its forms and uses, would be celebrated as the art that it is. They teamed up with Jonas Bohlin to design the ASPLUND Gallery in Stockholm where they featured the work of designers John Kandell, Thomas Sandell, Ron Arad and Philippe Starck. Eventually the brothers began to reach into the furniture design and production world themselves by collaborating with Thomas Sandell to create a collection under the name EDITION ASPLUND. And the legacy was begun.

In 1994, Thomas Sandell teamed with Jonas Bohlin to create the SNOW storage collection, and by 1995 ASPLUND had expanded their operation so much that a new, larger space was needed; the brothers and their team were bringing Swedish design to the rest of the world, and people were taking notice.

Today, after years of experimenting, researching, and working with  natural materials like stone, glass, and metals, ASPLUND has developed timeless collections of innovative design aimed at helping the consumer (or art collector, if you prefer) build the personal and comfortable home interior of their dreams while embracing minimalist style, traditional Swedish crafting techniques, and global design influence.

Responsibility to Consumers and the World

Holding true to their roots, ASPLUND is still grounded in Sweden for all of their production operations, believing that good design is signified by the passion and authenticity of its origins not the efficiency of its manufacturing process.

The lasting quality and durability of ASPLUND’s pieces are a credit to their homeland and are built to help expunge the current “throw-away” culture from the furniture industry. As a result, ASPLUND designs with the future in mind, ensuring each piece caries a minimalistic grace that will never lose its appeal, functional value, or stylistic charm.

Build Your Space

A lot can be learned from the entranceway of a home; the space sets the theme of the entire house and is the staging area for the comings and goings of everyone who enters or leaves the home. Luckily, ASPLUND is no stranger to predicting the needs of the rarely-thought-of areas, and has created pieces like the LUC 160 Sideboard.

LUC sideboard

Minimalist and the embodiment of functionality, the LUC Sideboard has graceful lines, natural wood cabinet fronts, and a solid metal base. With two drawers, the LUC has plenty of space for storing daily essentials, while the marble tabletop adds an elegance that pairs well with decor.

The presence of creative, functional, and versatile pieces is not taken lightly by ASPLUND. The Kilt Open Shelf features a crisscrossing pattern of door-less shelves, each space allowing for a different size item, making the Kilt Open Shelf one of ASPLUND’s most versatile pieces. Available in two sizes, the simplicity of the Kilt design allows your collections, books, technology, or personalized decorations to tell your story. If you need the privacy of doors, but love the minimalist structure of the Kilt Open Shelf, ASPLUND makes the Kilt Light series which features doors that conceal ample shelving space and has the added component of drawers.

No matter what your home needs, ASPLUND's artistic approach will enchant everything from the dining experience with the Tati Table to keeping the house organized. Shop the ASPLUND collection at HORNE today.
