Olivier Mourgue & Disderot

The design collective and creative workshop, Disderot, was established in 1948 by designer and visionary Pierre Disderot. A brilliant mind, Disderot was able to network and befriend some of his greatest design contemporaries. Through his own work, as well as the creative relationships he fostered with designers like Pierre Guariche, Joseph-Andre Motte, and Olivier Mourgues, Disderot became the godfather of the modern light. Today, the Disderot legacy is one of expansive creativity and innovation, stretching to all corners of the design world through iconic pieces representing all eras of mid-century design.

Disderot & Olivier Mourgue

One of the most productive relationships Disderot sought and fostered was between himself and Olivier Mourgue. Mourgue was a graduate of École Boulle in 1958, and by the time he started working with Disderot in 1967, he had already presented his Joker chair at the Societe Airborne, designed public buildings, helped design the French Pavilion for the Universal Exhibition of Montreal, and was about to win the First International Design Award from the Institute of Interior Designers in New York.

Delicate Design

Mourgue was making waves in the design world, and his series of flower lamps commissioned by Disderot was about to add to his legacy.

Artistic Lighting

These pretty, decorative lights are highly artistic, effortlessly delicate, and yet industrially inspired in their aesthetics. Mourgue took his aluminum petal design and shaped it into a full, elegant lighting series that includes two pendants, a wall light, and three floor lamp varieties.
