What’s the Best Dining Table Size?
Let’s start with some fundamentals. The size of your table matters when it comes to not only the look, but the overall flow of the room. A larger table isn’t always the answer if you want it to make a statement. Instead, we encourage you to focus on the details of the table and choose a size that works best for the layout and size of the room.
- Dining Table Size for 6. For a group of six, your table should measure around 60-72 inches in length and 36-42 inches in width. Go a little longer if you want more wiggle room or go smaller if you have more furniture you want to fit in the room.
- Dining Table Size for 8. Eight people will need around 72-96 inches of space. This larger size will easily fit 8-10 chairs and gives you plenty of space for all of your serving dishes. The standard width of 36-42 inches still applies, though some tables might be a bit wider.
- Dining Table Size for 10+. Finally, a table to fit 10 people or more should be about 96-120 inches long. Some tables might be even longer, but this is the standard largest size that is still moveable. If you need more table space, we recommend simply adding more tables.
Ultimately you want to be sure your table fits comfortably in your space with at least 36 inches of space on all sides or more to allow extra room for chairs to be pulled out from the table.
