Serge Mouille's insect-like designs from the 1950's were created as a reaction to heavier, clunkier Italian designs of the time. Serge Mouille wanted to create a modern lighting fixtures that had delicate lines and a stunning visual presence. The Six-Arm fixture is no exception. With 4 arms each reaching 31" and 2 arms each reaching 54", this ceiling lamp can really fill a whole room with light. Further, each shade has independent rotation to allow for further flexibility.
True to Serge Mouille's original production philosophy, each piece is made entirely by hand in France using the original forms, molds and techniques created by Mouille nearly 70 years ago. The unique brass joint allows the head to swivel and turn to any position and hold steady. Each piece is stamped and numbered. Only 600 pieces are produced each year at the Mouille factory and distributed around the world.

Today Serge Mouille's designs are still produced in a factory in France using Serge's original designs and tooling and each piece is made to Serge's exact specifications.
Serge Mouille originally studied silversmithing and metallurgy at the School of Applied Arts in Paris after being admitted at the age of 13. He had great success as a silversmith and began teaching by the age of 25. It was not until he was 31 that Serge Mouille introduced his first lighting fixture. His lamps were inspired by insect-like minimalism and were an intentional departure from the more complicated lamps of his time. Mouille's fixtures were first shown in a gallery in 1956 along designs by Charlotte Perriand, Isamu Noguchi and Jean Prouvé. His lighting fixtures are a blend of function and art that many have come to appreciate throughout the years.
