The Serge Mouille 5 Angled Arm Spider Ceiling Lamp stands as an iconic piece in modern lighting design, combining sleek lines with exceptional versatility. Created by Serge Mouille in the 1950s, it was designed as a reaction to the heavy, clunky Italian styles of the era. Featuring five independent rotating arms, this lamp allows light to be directed in a variety of ways, making it ideal for creating ambient or focused illumination. Its elegant form and flexible design are perfect examples of the refined aesthetic that defines Serge Mouille lighting. Crafted by hand in France using original molds and techniques, the 5 Angled Arm Spider Ceiling Lamp embodies the timeless quality Serge Mouille is known for. The brass joints allow the heads to swivel and lock securely in any position, offering full control over the direction of the light. With only 600 units produced each year, this limited production adds to the exclusivity and appeal of the lamp. As a piece of Serge Mouille lighting, it captures the perfect balance of craftsmanship and artistic design, making it a standout in any space. Serge Mouille’s designs, including the Serge Mouille lamp, have become synonymous with innovation in Serge Mouille lighting and mid-century modern aesthetics. Serge Mouille
Serge Mouille (FRANCE 1922-1988) is most famous for his modern lighting fixtures characterized by matte black parts with beautiful brass connectors. Serge Mouille's lighting fixtures are coveted amongst the modern interior mindset and have been revered for their sophisticated yet minimal design. Today Serge Mouille's designs are still produced in a factory in France using Serge's original designs and tooling and each piece is made to Serge's exact specifications.
Serge Mouille originally studied silversmithing and metallurgy at the School of Applied Arts in Paris after being admitted at the age of 13. He had great success as a silversmith and began teaching by the age of 25. It was not until he was 31 that Serge Mouille introduced his first lighting fixture. His lamps were inspired by insect-like minimalism and were an intentional departure from the more complicated lamps of his time. Mouille's fixtures were first shown in a gallery in 1956 along designs by Charlotte Perriand, Isamu Noguchi and Jean Prouvé. His lighting fixtures are a blend of function and art that many have come to appreciate throughout the years.
