The Serge Mouille Spider Sconce is a remarkable example of mid-century modern design. Created by the French designer Serge Mouille in the 1950s, this sconce features three adjustable arms, with lengths of 16", 34", and 43", offering flexible lighting that can be directed across a room. It is not only a functional light source but also a visually striking piece, with independently rotating shades that allow for even greater control over the lighting direction, making it a perfect addition to any modern interior. Handcrafted in France, the Serge Mouille Spider Sconce stays true to the designer’s original vision and methods, which were revolutionary in the 1950s. The sconce’s brass joints allow each shade to swivel smoothly and hold its position, enabling precise control over the light’s direction. Made using the same molds and techniques Serge Mouille developed decades ago, this piece is produced in limited quantities, with only 600 created each year, adding an air of exclusivity and craftsmanship to every unit. Serge Mouille’s legacy in the world of design is defined by his innovative approach to modern lighting. His creations, including the Spider Sconce, continue to be highly regarded for their elegant and functional design. Known for his minimalist aesthetic and emphasis on craftsmanship, Serge Mouille’s work has made a lasting impact on modern lighting and mid-century lighting. A Serge Mouille lighting fixture remains a timeless addition to any collection, bringing both style and sophistication to contemporary spaces.

Serge Mouille
Serge Mouille (FRANCE 1922-1988) is most famous for his modern lighting fixtures characterized by matte black parts with beautiful brass connectors. Serge Mouille's lighting fixtures are coveted amongst the modern interior mindset and have been revered for their sophisticated yet minimal design. Today Serge Mouille's designs are still produced in a factory in France using Serge's original designs and tooling and each piece is made to Serge's exact specifications.
Serge Mouille originally studied silversmithing and metallurgy at the School of Applied Arts in Paris after being admitted at the age of 13. He had great success as a silversmith and began teaching by the age of 25. It was not until he was 31 that Serge Mouille introduced his first lighting fixture. His lamps were inspired by insect-like minimalism and were an intentional departure from the more complicated lamps of his time. Mouille's fixtures were first shown in a gallery in 1956 along designs by Charlotte Perriand, Isamu Noguchi and Jean Prouvé. His lighting fixtures are a blend of function and art that many have come to appreciate throughout the years.
