The Moooi Monster Chair is Marcel Wanders' way of exploring the whole "good versus evil" thing through furniture, which sounds pretentious until you actually see one and realize it's just a really comfortable dining chair that happens to have a grimacing monster face embroidered on the back. Originally designed back in 2010, the signature version comes in black quilted synthetic leather with diamond stitching that gives it this plush, almost luxurious look despite the menacing expression staring back at you. The steel frame is padded with foam and upholstered in a way that makes the whole thing soft and inviting rather than rigid or uncomfortable. Available with or without arms, and you can even get the "naked" version without the monster face if you want the comfort and style but aren't ready to commit to furniture that glares at your dinner guests. What's interesting is how the chair actually performs once you sit down - you completely forget about the monster theme because the ergonomics are genuinely well thought out. The mid-height backrest curves inward at the edges to cradle your back, and the T-shaped design provides support where you need it without feeling confining. The quilted upholstery has enough give that you're comfortable during long meals or conversations, not perching awkwardly like some dining chairs where you're ready to get up after fifteen minutes. Originally only available in that signature black leather, the Monster family has expanded and you can now spec these in over 200 different fabrics if black quilted leather feels like too much drama for your dining room. The chair sits at a comfortable height for standard dining tables, and the proportions work well whether you're using them around a table or as accent seating.
