The Moooi Nest Armchair is Marcel Wanders' attempt at making a chair that feels like you're settling into an actual nest - hence the name, which is pretty literal for once. He took a minimal powder-coated steel frame and topped it with these oversized plump cushions filled with mixed foam and feathers, creating this elevated perch that lifts you off the floor instead of sinking down into low seating. The frame comes in black, silver-gray, or satin white, and the whole structure stays remarkably light despite looking substantial because the steel framework does all the work. What's smart about the design is how those puffy cushions connect via zippers, so you can remove all the covers for cleaning instead of just spot-treating stains and hoping for the best. Wanders developed two signature prints specifically for this collection - "One Minute" with blue sky splashes and "Flower Bits" with blooming flowers and butterflies - though you can pick from a wide range of other fabrics if colorful patterns aren't your thing. The seat proportions work for extended sitting without your legs going numb or your back complaining, which matters more than most lounge chairs admit. The cushions provide that soft-yet-firm support where you actually relax instead of constantly adjusting position, and the feather fill gives the cushions enough give that they conform to your body without feeling mushy. Moooi's been Marcel Wanders' main creative outlet since he co-founded it with Casper Vissers in 2001, and the Nest collection from 2013 reflects his romantic, slightly whimsical approach to furniture design. Wanders became internationally known for his Knotted Chair back in the '90s and has been designing for major brands like Flos, Alessi, and B&B Italia ever since - he's also Moooi's creative director, so the brand's aesthetic is heavily his vision. His work tends to emphasize comfort and emotional connection rather than pure function, which shows in how he named this "Nest" and talks about falling in love with furniture.
